Shell, along with the Refhyne I consortium, brought online a 10 MW electrolyser at their Rhineland Refinery in July 2021. This is the first fully operational plant in Europe to use this technology at the 10 MW scale in a refinery, and will be able to produce up to 1,300 tonnes of green hydrogen each year. The hydrogen will be used in refinery processes including the desulphurisation of conventional fuels.
