HyDeal España

Posted by

HyDeal España is the first industrial implementation of the HyDeal Ambition platform. It will supply an industrial complex in Asturias from facilities based in Northern Spain at a price competitive with fossil fuels. Production will start in 2025 and total installed capacity will reach 9.5 GW of solar power and 7.4 GW of electrolyzers by 2030. The project also features the establishment of an electrolyzer gigafactory. ArcelorMittal and Fertiberia – together with other large off-takers set to join the project – will commit to purchasing 6.6 million tons of green hydrogen over 20 years.

Iberdrola Puertollano

Posted by

Iberdrola has commissioned the largest plant producing green hydrogen for industrial use in Europe. The Puertollano (Spain) plant consists of a 100 MW photovoltaic solar plant, a lithium-ion battery system with a storage capacity of 20 MWh and one of the largest electrolytic hydrogen production systems in the world (20 MW). The green hydrogen produced there will be used Fertiberia’s local ammonia plant.

Project Catalina

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has announced a partnership with Enagás, Naturgy, Fertiberia and Vestas to build a project for the large-scale production of green hydrogen and ammonia in Spain. Catalina Phase I is currently in an advanced development stage and is expected to be fully developed and permitted in less than two years. Construction is planned to start at the end of 2023. The project will consist of 1.7GW of wind and solar energy facilities as well as a 500MW electrolyser capable of producing over 40,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Catalina will bring emissions reductions of 1 million tons of CO2e per year in its first phase, and up to 2.5 million tons per year when it reaches full implementation.

Hydrogen City

Posted by

Hydrogen City, Texas will be an integrated green hydrogen production, storage, and transport hub growing to 60GW in size and producing over 3 billion kilograms of green hydrogen per year. The project is centered around a hydrogen storage facility in the Piedras Pintas Salt Dome located in Duval County. Pipelines will deliver the green hydrogen to Corpus Christi where it will be turned into green ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel and other products, or delivered by pipeline directly to hydrogen power plants and other users around the state. The project will be built in phases with the first phase expected to commence operations in 2026, consisting of 2GW of production and two storage caverns at the Piedras Pintas salt dome.

MadoquaPower2X

Posted by

MadoquaPower2X is developing a world-leading green hydrogen and renewable ammonia project. The project will be located in Portugal in the Sines industrial zone and will have an electrolysis capacity of 500 MW and an ammonia production capacity of 500 ktpa. The project generates economic growth with an economic activity classified as sustainable according to the latest EU Taxonomy and is an important factor to secure an independent power infrastructure.

Herøya Industripark

In January 2022, Yara announced the signing of a contract with Linde Engineering for the construction and delivery of a green hydrogen demonstration plant at Yara’s ammonia production facility at Herøya Industripark in Porsgrunn, Norway. The project will be realized by water electrolysis which will produce green hydrogen to partially replace the hydrocarbon-based hydrogen production in Yara’s plant, using proton exchange membrane technology.

Haddock Project

Posted by

Ørsted and Yara join forces to develop a groundbreaking project to produce green ammonia. The project provides a potential CO2 saving of 100,000 tons of CO2 and aims to be operational between 2024 and 2025. The 100 MW electrolysis plant will be powered by offshore wind energy from Ørsted.

The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia has confirmed €770,000 funding to support a feasibility study for the construction of a 100-megawatt water electrolysis plant for the production of green hydrogen at the INEOS site in Köln. The hydrogen is to be used as a feedstock for ammonia production at the plant, although future expansion could allow for uses in the local Chemiepark, regional transport or for green methanol.
