Vale USA has been selected for awards negotiations for up to $282.9 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy for their Low-Emissions, Cold-Agglomerated Iron Ore Briquette Production project. This transformative technology achieves deep emissions reductions by decarbonizing iron ore processing and reducing the need for industrial heat, resulting in a flexible product that can be used at both direct-reduced and blast furnace ironmaking routes. This would reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 60% and also have health benefits—reducing certain criteria air pollutants like sulfur oxides by roughly 99%.
