The AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company has been selected for awards negotiations for up to $75 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy for their “Right Way” Next Generation Melt Project. Through this project the AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company seeks to electrify its process by replacing a cupola furnace with four induction furnaces, eliminating coke (derived from coal) combustion, and reducing melt process carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 95% at its Birmingham, Alabama facility. This project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
