The Carbon Offsetting Market – creating accountability and credibility in a growing market

Join Alex Cameron and explore the voluntary carbon offsetting market and how industrials can navigate the many programmes and opportunities

The voluntary carbon offsetting market offers short term opportunities and possibly longer-term gains as part of a Net Zero strategy. But with 17000+ opportunities to offset emission globally, how can industrials ensure that they choose the appropriate programme, and how can they further ensure that it can evidence accountability and true additionality.

A $300m+ market right now, offsets are set for massive growth – all while coming under significant pressure from detractors concerned at their unintended consequences. For industrials, though, where at scale solutions for decarbonisation will take time to become investable and fully rolled-out – they represent an opportunity for meaning steps forward towards Net Zero.

The discussion explores Allied Crowd’s experience of developing a database of these projects, the critical questions and deliverables needed from any carbon offsetting programme – through to an exploration of additional benefits when we look at “when is a tonne of CO2 not (just) a tonne of CO2”.

Decarb Connect supports the acceleration of industrial decarbonisation around the globe. We share insights and facilitate collaborations across the emerging decarbonisation ecosystem. We look specifically at the most energy-intensive industrials from cement, metals and mining, glass, ceramics, chemicals, O&G and many more and help connect them to technology disruptors, investors and advisors.

Through the Decarbonisation Leaders Network (DLN), our members (a cross-sector network of those leading decarbonisation in energy-intensive industries) share insights and experiences as they accelerate their Net Zero plans. Check out Decarb Connect’s offerings and learn about the Decarbonisation Leaders Network members, meetups and benefits.
